Kush Queen Puts the CBD In Mani-Pedi
Nail salons and beauty centers are another entry in the long line of businesses adopting cannabis as part of their brand. Kush Queen, a female-owned cannabis company, has started marketing their CBD beauty products such as soaks, scrubs and lotions to high-flying Los Angeles beauty salons, such as Bellacures, a beauty chain with branches in Texas and California.
“Canna-cure” involves the treatment of nails and toes with CBD-based products. A nail salon may not be the first business you’d expect partnering with a cannabis company, but Gerard Quiroga, owner of Bellacures, explained in an interview with Fashionista.com. "We are making sure all of our messaging is clear that CBD is not psychoactive and will not get you high. Over the last few years, people are talking more about the benefits of CBD, which is making people more knowledgeable, so we were more excited than skeptical."
CBD is the second most common cannabinoid of the marijuana plant - buzz-causing cannabinoid, THC being the most popular. CBD, well-known for its relaxing and anti-inflammatory effects is used for many conditions, including pains and autoimmune diseases. Utilizing it as a beauty product is only natural considering its benefits.
Kush Queen started as a small web store called The Crystal Cult, which sold fancy vaporizers, before moving into cannabis products. Nowadays, the company is focused on cannabinoid-based beauty products. Olivia Alexander, the founder of Kush Queen, is certain that soon enough, people will be able to enjoy their THC-infused beauty products. "Psychoactive Canna-Cures will eventually be a reality, and Kush Queen will be ready."
However, the company had some hurdles to breach, as CBD does not easily absorb through the skin. Olivia claims that they finally did it through the use of Amplifi nanotechnology. "Until recently, most cannabis topicals have had to be oil-based," she explained. "Cannabis is fat soluble, not water soluble, so most of the formulations for lotions were extremely oily and not ideal for a manicure or pedicure."
This innovative approach made the partnership with Bellacures a reality. With an almost perfect rating on Weedmaps and years of industry experience, Kush Queen is now a pioneer in cannabis-based beauty products. The market is expected to skyrocket in the next few years and Olivia seems confident about the
future. "It's about being more than a gimmick, it's about helping someone achieve that next level in relaxation," she added.
